Renovation and Addition:

The Floyd County Detention Center project consisted of renovating the existing building and adding 114 beds without enlarging the footprint of the building. Each cell block received new fixtures, paint, doors, locks, and added beds. The existing kitchen and booking areas were totally gutted and rebuilt. The mechanical and electrical infrastructure as well as fire alarms and security systems were rebuilt as well. The renovation of any structure can have its difficulties. This project was unique because inmates remained in the facility and were moved to different areas as the work progressed. This kept the county from having to send inmates to other counties during the renovation process. Diligent, pinpoint management, planning, and communications between the construction manager, the detention center staff, county commissioners, and the rest of the team was critical to the success.
“(Shireman’s) daily contact with the contractors and my staff has been invaluable, their ideas and cost savings measures can’t be beat, there seems to be no end to the intellect the company brings to the table.”
